Health officials ponder farm’s dead animal toll. “Rabbits, goats – even a horse – are among the roughly 100 animals to mysteriously die at a Nova Scotia farm in the past five years. And with the recent deaths of a number of wild birds at the farm, the Natural Resources Department has stepped in and sent one of the animal carcasses to the Atlantic Veterinary College for testing.”….”after years of questions”….”the cause: a cellphone relay tower erected beside the farm. A tenant on the farm for the last two years,”… “the farm’s owner purchased the property about a year before the cell tower went up. Before the tower, the farm’s owner”….”never experienced problems. “

“When that tower went up, he ended up losing his animals little by little,” … “While domestic birds sang and a rooster crowed in the background”….a litany of deaths on the farm…”a dog staggering around and then keeling over, and ….a goat suddenly dying from a seizure. Four years ago, a horse fell over on its side, never to recover.”

“How many animals have died?”

“You couldn’t count them,”….”Over the winter, …a large truck box with the bodies of rabbits and birds.”

“It’s the latter that’s attracted the attention of the province’s Natural Resources Department. Upon hearing of robins, finches and other song birds dying at the property, department officials requested that the farm owner send an animal for testing to the Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown.”

“College vets will conduct tests on a guinea pig that died at the farm, but it could be weeks before they have answers.”

Camouflaged Cell Phone Towers September 13, 2006

“Former eyesores now blend into the landscape, but some say the structures are still nuisances. The next time you go on a hike, take a closer look at the surrounding trees. You might be surprised to discover that “tree” is actually a cellphone tower….Cellular phone towers can take any shape: tree, church steeple, chimney, flagpole, windmill, cactus, and even boulder…….”One of the major ways that a town can deny an antenna permit application is because of aesthetic appeal or property values,” said Libby Kelley, executive director of the Council on Wireless Technology Impacts….

…”In many cases today, cities will not allow carriers to install sites without some sort of concealment and then when they conceal it, it really expedites the zoning process,….Normally, getting a cell tower approved can take a year or more, but a disguised tower could shorten the process — possibly to just six months….once approved, it takes about 8 to 10 weeks to construct a tree pole.”

“Hidden towers have their drawbacks, however. Camouflaged towers can cost between $40,000 and $100,000 to produce, roughly 10 times more than normal towers…. the return costs to wireless carriers offset the expense.”

EMF’s, Cell Phone Towers, and Aesthetics September 13, 2006

“To keep up, cell “sites” — towers and antennas mostly — have increased tenfold, from fewer than 18,000 in 1994 to more than 175,000 now. Without additional towers, calls are lost and reception suffers.”

“Our companies are always running into this conundrum, which is, ‘We want cell phone service, but don’t put that tower here,'” Farren said. “When you’re dealing with communications through the air, you have to have antennas and towers.”

“To meet demand, companies are increasingly turning to nontraditional sites — fire houses, churches, schools, even cemeteries and national parks. A cell tower now sits near Yellowstone’s Old Faithful, despite strong opposition.”…..

….”Cell sites can be a financial boon to those who provide space for them. Cell companies won’t discuss rent, but Donohue said companies typically pay $800 to $2,000 per month, depending on location, the size of the tower or antenna, and other factors. That can be a significant amount for a struggling school district or a church with stagnant or declining membership.”….

….”T-Mobile sued. U.S. Magistrate Judge Frederick Buckles ruled in favor of the company in July. Debbie Barrett, a spokeswoman for suburban Seattle-based T-Mobile, said the company is doing everything it can to make the site “blend in.” But she said the antenna is needed.”

“FOR THE PAST several years, the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has been developing sensors capable of detecting electromagnetic radiation across the spectrum–from the infrared (IR), through the visible, and into the ultraviolet regions. These sensors have become integral parts of military weapons systems as well as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems–and, undoubtedly, the capabilities we have developed are technologically sophisticated. However, many biological systems possess sensing capabilities unmatched by current technologies. For example, the IR-sensitive beetle (Melanophila acuminata) is attracted to fires and smoke 50 kilometers away. (1) These insects are attracted to forest fires because burned trees provide the ideal environment for larvae to develop and hatch into adults. The forest fires emit IR radiation that the beetle detects via a specialized IR sensor known as the IR pit organ or IR sensilla. By understanding the mechanism and the biological processes involved in this IR sensor, one could develop new and improved materials and sensors for Air Force applications.””Literally, the term biomimetics means to imitate life. In a more practical sense, biomimetics is an interdisciplinary effort aimed at understanding biological principles and then applying them to improve existing technology. This process can mean changing a design to match a biological pattern or actually using biological materials, such as proteins, to improve performance.”

The Cover Up About EMF’s….Why? August 11, 2006

“A good ten years have been lost by cover-up attempts, improper research fundings and an unwillingness to address the issue. By not addressing the issue of VDT injuries and electrical sensitivity, we have allowed something far worse to happen. In the shadow of the cover up activities, we have built microwave transmitters in our cities ( for cellular phones). The microwave transmitters are on roof tops, on apartment buildings, on water towers, on hills, in the depth of forests, on islands in the archipelago. Soon they will be in every block, in tunnels, in shopping centers, in offices. This has been done without thoroughly investigating the long term effects on human health of micro-waves. Research in this field (high frequencies), has been ignored, discouraged and even stopped. This is by far the biggest environmental threat to humans. Soon there will be no place on earth where you can be without being enveloped in the invisible electro-smog. Had we listened to the electrically and-VDT-injured we might have learned someting and paused, before smothering ourselves in microwaves.”

Almost daily, newspapers and magazines all over the world are exposing the dangers posed by the radiation from cell phones, which penetrates the developing skulls of our children, compromises the blood brain barrier, and inflicts genetic damage that is a known diagnostic marker for cancer. In addition, cell towers are infiltrating our landscape right next to our children’s schools, on top of our nation’s firehouses, in church steeples where our 2, 3 and 4 year olds attend preschool; and, recently it has been announced that even our state parks will not be safe from the proliferation of cell towers.
