“Teachers have warned that not enough is known about the effects of wi-fi.”

“Alan Johnson is said to believe that no investigation is required into the effects of wi-fi.”

“The use of wireless computer networks in classrooms should be immediately suspended until an inquiry has fully investigated the health threat to millions of pupils, a teachers’ chief urged yesterday”….” children were effectively acting as guinea pigs because the risk posed by ‘wi-fi’ networks had not yet been thoroughly considered.”….Wireless technology has been linked with loss of concentration, fatigue, reduced memory and headaches. There are also claims that it could increase the long-term risk of cancer.:

“My real concern is that until there is a full inquiry based on both existing evidence and on newly commissioned research work, the nation’s children are being treated as guinea pigs in a large-scale experiment.”…demand…an inquiry follows a similar call…a review of the health effects of wi-fi networks was ‘timely’ amid fears they could pose greater dangers than previously thought.”

“Wi-fi systems use high frequency radio waves to transmit and receive data over distances of several hundred feet….They allow users to surf the internet within range of a wireless transmitter and remove the need to connect via a cable….Some 70 per cent of primary schools and 81 per cent of secondaries have already introduced wi-fi, according to official figures, and it is being fitted as standard in all new state schools, including academies.”

“A typical comprehensive has ten wi-fi transmitters spread around the premises. If a school has thick walls, there may be many more. Children are thought to be more vulnerable to electro-magnetic radiation due to their thinner skulls and still-developing nervous systems”….”a wi-fi network… comprehensive gave off three times as much radiation as a typical phone mast, though some scientists have queried the programme’s claims.”

‘Guidance circulated …on schools to dismantle wi-fi networks immediately and replace them with cables. If this is impossible, they should measure radiation levels around the school and put warning signs at hotspots.’…a classics teacher, became too ill to teach after suffering headaches, pains, flushes, pressure behind the eyes and nausea. He has since conducted a study of research into electro-magnetic radiation and believes official advice on wi-fi is “inaccurate”…..dangers of children using wi-fi-enabled laptops on their knees, when the wi-fi transmitter would be only 2cm from the child’s body”…”It is widely used in homes, offices and in public areas.”

“Does my hybrid have elevated electromagnetic fields? If so, will they hurt my family or me?”

“To date, neither an exhaustive web search nor the services of a crack librarian …have been able to unearth precise measurements of electromagnetic fields, or EMF, in hybrids. What you do with this knowledge, or lack thereof, depends largely upon your personality. Currently, the public can only be sure that the electronics contained in the vehicles meet FCC standards for electromagnetic interference (EMI) with other electronic devices.”
“EMFs come from power lines, televisions, microwave ovens, and (hybrid and conventional) cars.”

The properties and effects of non-ionising radiations are very diverse. For the purpose of this Policy non-ionising radiations include:

Extremely low frequency (ELF) radiation

Electromagnetic radiation with frequencies in the range 0 Hz (static fields) to 3 kHz, including the 50 Hz electric and magnetic fields associated with the domestic mains electricity supply such as in domestic electrical appliances, electricity supply substations and overhead power lines.

Radiofrequency (RF) radiation

Electromagnetic radiation with frequencies in the range 3 kHz to 300 GHz, which is produced by artificial sources such as visual display units and mobile phones.

Microwave (MW) radiation

Electromagnetic radiation with frequencies in the range 1 GHz to 300 GHz, which is produced by artificial sources such as in microwave ovens and by microwave communication devices. (This radiation is now considered part of Radiofrequency radiation.)

Infrared (IR) radiation

Electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths between 700 nm and 1 mm, which is present in sunlight and produced by artificial sources such as electric radiator heaters.

Visible light

Electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths between 400 nm (blue) and 700 nm (red), which is present in sunlight and produced by numerous artificial sources, including lasers.

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation

Electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths between 100 nm and 400 nm, which is present in sunlight as well as produced by artificial sources such as arc welding and sterilization lamps.

Though intended for renovations, Chris Anderson would like all visitors to deposit their cellular phones in the cement mixer by his front door. This sounds excessive – until you step into Anderson’s orchard, where the pegged needle of a shrieking electromagnetic radiation (EMR) meter placed beside a connected cellphone still shows significant exposure 100 feet away.

Much to the chagrin of this certified EMR-mitigation specialist, every day some 300 million cell phone users are “reaching out and touching someone you love. Yourself, and anyone else within range of the microwaves emitted by your cell phone.”……Silicon sensors are already calling to each other. Soon, countless communicating microchips embedded in everything from bumpers to brooms will be sending streams of encoded electrical energy through glass, steel, concrete, bone and flesh. Exquisitely sensitive to subtle electromagnetic harmonies, human brains and bodies as intricate as galaxies depend on tiny electrical impulses to conduct complex life-processes – including the ability to read, recall and respond to these words. Acting as antennas, our anatomies just as easily tune into spurious signals from radio and microwave transmissions. .

….”a worse frequency could not have been chosen for the human anatomy.”

As cell phones conquer consumer minds and markets, researcher Carolanne Patton notes that “the brain reaches peak absorption in the UHF bands, right where cellular telecommunications operate.” British military scientists have discovered that cellphone transmissions disrupt the brain sites for memory and learning, causing forgetfulness and sudden confusion.

Other studies show that electromagnetic signals from cellular phones reduce the ability to concentrate, calculate and coordinate complicated activities such as driving a car. Startled by $4 billion a year in extra claims among cellphone-wielding drivers, North American insurers did a double-take that found simply juggling `cell phones is not causing a 600% increase in accidents over other drivers busy shaving, applying makeup, tuning radios, taming pets, making out, pouring coffee, retrieving dropped cigarettes, talking and gesturing to passengers, or actually steering the vehicle….Instead of just another dangerous distraction, tests conducted by the U.S.Department of Energy found that using a cell phone severely impairs memory and reaction times. “Hands-free” mobile speaker-phones cause even more crashes because they typically emit 10-times more brainwave interference than handheld units.

For all drivers dialing out on their cell phones, University of Toronto investigators report that the heightened probability of cracking up your car persists for up to 15-minutes after completing a call. That’s comparable to the risk of crashing while driving dead drunk exclaims Dr. Chris Runball, chairman of the B.C. Medical Association’s emergency medical services committee. Reeling from “dial-a-collision” costs, the government of British Columbia may join England, Spain, Israel, Switzerland and Brazil in restricting or banning the use of cell phones by drivers.

In New Zealand, cellphone towers are prohibited on school property because of possible health effects.
But Health Canada regulations ignore the hidden hazards of cell-wrenching cellphones, which send pulsed signals through the skull in a process one expert likens to “jackhammers on the brain.”

…. cellphone addiction mirrors the prestigious early allure of smoking – as well as an immensely profitable industry’s steadfast denial of risk and responsibility. …Sir William Stewart told London’s Financial Times that “children may be more vulnerable because of their developing nervous system, the greater absorption of energy in the tissues of the head and a longer lifetime of exposure.”

…a Ph.D. biophysicist warns that headaches, fatigue, lethargy, nausea, dizziness, depression, arteriosclerosis and even Alzheimer’s can result from frequent or prolonged calls on cell phones.

“There is also a higher incidence of cardiac problems,” Cherry comments, “in terms of the timing function in hearts. You get more heart attacks and more heart disease – it has now been shown in many studies.”

…..cell phones can murderously modify moods. In brains and bodies seriously derailed by tiny imbalances in trace minerals and hormones, depression, suicide, anger, rage and violence can result when calcium and serotonin levels are disrupted by cellphone transmissions….
.
….DNA damage is passed on to succeeding generations.

….we forget how inconvenient it is to contract cancer. …B-cell lymphomas doubled in mice within 18 months of one-hour daily exposure to power densities experienced by a cellphone user. B-cell lymphomas are implicated in 85% of all cancers.

…Sleep disorders, she learned, are common among people exposed to high levels of electromagnetic pollution.

…there is nothing “safe” about the new 1.9 gigahertz broadcasting frequency. Much like a boxer taking repeated blows to the head, rapidly pulsing cellphones signal permanent brain damage. A study by Dr. Peter Franch found unequivocally that “cells are permanently damaged by cellular phone frequencies.” This cellular damage, Franch noted, is maximized at low dosage – and “inherited unchanged, from generation to generation.”

….the production of histamine, which triggers bronchial spasms, is nearly doubled after exposure to mobile phone transmissions. Cellphones also reduce the effectiveness of anti-asthmatic drugs, and retard recovery from illness.

…. 217 Hz spikes are very close to the frequencies of human cell membranes.

…..because cancer takes decades to develop, it will be another 10 or 20 years before “mobiles” manifest a big bonanza in brain tumors. But he adds, we’re already seeing “acute effects that are noticed within minutes of using a cell phone.”

After two minutes’ conversation, a cell phone’s digitized impulses disable the safety barrier that isolates the brain from destructive proteins and poisons in the blood.

…If you must pack a cell phone, treat it like a loaded pistol. Keep it turned off. Don’t carry it near ovaries, testicles, or the heart. For partial protection, buy an antenna shield. Limit calls to one-minute, six to 10 minutes a month. Never fire off a cellphone with children anywhere in sight.

A better bet is to facilitate the growth of organic telephone networks with lots of fibre. Instead of more microwave towers, “We should be wiring up our cities with fibre-optic cables to provide Internet, fax, telephone, radio and television at very high quality,” Cherry urges, “rather than saturating our cities with the microwave, radiowave and low frequency signals all the time.”

When it comes to cells, consciousness and cell phones, every call is collect. How can convenience count more than cancer? What is gained by being in constant contact with disembodied voices, while being “out of touch” with the friends and neighbours around us? Are we comfortable having our location traced by monitoring authorities?

Unless we start voting with our wallets, consumer complacency could prove as species-limiting as corporate cynicism.

“Microwave frequencies are the same as those used in radar and your microwave oven,” … “You wouldn’t think of sticking your head in the oven, but there is no hesitation to putting the cell phone to your ear.”

It’s worth reading this whole article…. put this in your url NOW:

“Staff at computer factories could be at increased risk of contracting cancer because of working environments containing high levels of chemicals, metals and electromagnetic fields, according to a new study.”
“In what is the largest study of its kind, the findings focus on upwards of 30,000 deaths of members of staff at factories in the US since 1969.”

“It comes as government health inspectors have begun conducting a long-delayed follow-up inquiry into an Inverclyde factory at the centre of numerous cancer scares.”

“Scots scientists have criticised the “limited” second investigation into the National Semiconductor plant in Greenock, and say the new study helps “firm-up the picture” surrounding health risks.”

“The study by the Boston University School of Public Health in the US, published in the science journal Environmental Health, analysed the causes of death for 31,941 IBM workers and compared them with causes of death among the American population during this period. The information was obtained from IBM as part of a California lawsuit against the firm. The results of the study indicate there was increased mortality due to several types of cancer, especially in manufacturing workers and workers at particular plants in California, Minnesota, New York, and Vermont. Most notably, there was an excess of deaths due to cancer of the brain and central nervous system.”

“Richard Clapp, from Boston University School of Public Health, said: “It was not possible to link these deaths to specific chemicals or other exposures in the workplace because the information necessary to do this was not available.”

“The research appears to back up previous, smaller studies and highlights clear health risks for workers in computer factories. Among these was the Health and Safety Executive’s initial 2001 study of 4000 people at National Semiconductor, which showed statistically significant excesses of lung, stomach, and breast cancers among women and an excess of brain cancer among men, with some rates four or five times higher than average.”

“The HSE said it had received “ethical approval” to begin a new study at Greenock. Announced last June, and planning to look at various cases of cancer in more detail, it has been subject to significant delays. Professor Andrew Watterson, of Stirling University’s occupational, environmental and public health group, said: “The US study confirms some of the evidence we have seen at Nat Semi. The families of former Nat Semi workers have been calling for years for a Europe-wide or international study into the industry, and this is the next best thing.”

“Jim McCourt, of Phase Two, a support group for Nat Semi workers, said: “We’ve no doubt working in Nat Semi is dangerous. The scale of this study shows the industry has a real problem, and we would call on the HSE to initiate a UK-wide study.”

Court victory is a first for cell-phone programmers

“……[she] thought it was just another in a series of sinus infections. Her head and eyes hurt, and she was vomiting. But then Price had a seizure, and a brain scan found something far more troubling….the phone was ringing. It was the doctor’s office, … `Brace yourself. Honey, you have a brain tumor.’ “

“After her diagnosis in 1999 and surgery to remove most of the tumor, [she] started looking for answers…. convinced that exposure to radio-frequency radiation on the job, where she programmed cell phones for new customers, had caused the tumor.”…an administrative law judge who handles worker’s compensation claims awarded her $30,000 to pay her medical bills and other expenses. [She] may be the first person to convince a judge that her illness was caused by radio-frequency radiation….when she filed a workers comp claim, her boss fired her, eliminating her health insurance. Then she lost the case. The Native American single mother of two daughters was devastated. She turned to Tribal Health, a government health agency for Native Americans, to get anti-seizure medication.””…If I hadn’t been Indian, I would have died,” she said.”

“After Price recovered from brain surgery, she went to the Internet and found researchers studying the biological effects of radio-frequency radiation, and got to know them.”

“I would call them up and say, `You are absolutely dead on. If a rat could talk, this is what it would say. I’m the human rat.’ “

“[She] couldn’t find an attorney to take her case until she contacted … a semi-retired lawyer and president of the Wireless Consumers Alliance, a California-based consumer-advocacy group…[who] volunteered to represent her pro bono and re-filed her workers comp case….

“It’s not a money issue, suing the company, it’s a health and safety issue,” … [she] speaks to school assemblies and classes…

Electric appliances in the household
The strongest power frequency electric fields that are ordinarily encountered in the environment exist beneath high voltage transmission lines. In contrast, the strongest magnetic fields at power frequency are normally found very close to motors and other electrical appliances, as well as in specialized equipment such as magnetic resonance scanners used for medical imaging.

(Typical electric field strengths measured near household appliances
(at a distance of 30 cm)
(From: Federal Office for Radiation Safety, Germany 1999)

Many people are surprised when they become aware of the variety of magnetic field levels found near various appliances. The field strength does not depend on how large, complex, powerful or noisy the device is. Furthermore, even between apparently similar devices, the strength of the magnetic field may vary a lot. For example, while some hair dryers are surrounded by a very strong field, others hardly produce any magnetic field at all. These differences in magnetic field strength are related to product design. The following table shows typical values for a number of electrical devices commonly found in homes and workplaces. The measurements were taken in Germany and all of the appliances operate on electricity at a frequency of 50 Hz. It should be noted that the actual exposure levels vary considerably depending on the model of appliance and distance from it.

"...............................I prefer wired communication over wireless. Most
secure of all is voice/data transmissions over fiber optic cabling. But,.....
I can't exactly say I've heard of a ton of cases where someone had fiber op
installed in their home. But just to mention in case you din't already know,
what makes communications over fiber so secure is the fact that is communication
using laser optics (light) technology rather than transmissions superimposed on
electical signals send over a twisted pair of copper wire. Also, fiber optic
cabling is completely free from the electical interference that can plague
twisted copper pair cabling. And, since all transmissions over fiber optics are
always of the digital transmission type, sound clarity is superb. What's more,
even if someone tried to tap your line by splicing into fiber optic, much like
they can with copper pair wiring, that won't work. After all, it's light, not
electricity used to transmit the voice/data connections. Actually, fiber op can
even carry digital broadcast or cable TV transmissions....

Analog – A signaling method that uses continuous changes in the amplitude or frequency of a radio transmission to convey information. It relies on a continuous (rather than pulsed as in digital) electrical signal that varies in amplitude or frequency in response to changes of sound, light, position, etc., impressed on a transducer in the sending device; opposite of digital.
