One more strong point to validate that SAR testing is not adequate for judging a cell phone users safety.

“With SAR testing, Dummy heads are filled with solutions to simulate brain conductivity and probed to measure depth and intensity. Amazingly enough regulatory agencies have not deemed it necessary to measure exposure to eyes.… Eye’s are unprotected by the skull and comprised of cells that are extremely sensitive to electromagnetic energy.”

“Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), the second most common skin cancer after basal cell carcinoma, afflicts more than 200,000 Americans each year. It arises from the epidermis and resembles the squamous cells that comprise most of the upper layers of skin. SCCs may occur on all areas of the body including the mucous membranes, but are most common in areas exposed to the sun.”

“Although SCCs usually remain confined to the epidermis for some time, they eventually penetrate the underlying tissues if not treated. When this happens, they can be disfiguring. In a small percentage of cases, they spread (metastasize) to distant tissues and organs and can become fatal. SCCs that metastasize most often arise on sites of chronic inflammatory skin conditions or on the mucous membranes or lips.”

There seems to be an increase in cancers of the mouth, tongue, ear, head and ocular regions that may be associated with EMF’s or cell phone radiation.

“The most basic fact about cell phones and cell towers is that they emit microwave radiation; so do Wi-Fi (wireless Internet) antennas, wireless computers, cordless (portable) phones and their base units, and all other wireless devices. If it’s a communication device and it’s not attached to the wall by a wire, it’s emitting radiation. Most Wi-Fi systems and some cordless phones operate at the exact same frequency as a microwave oven, while other devices use a different frequency. Wi-Fi is always on and always radiating. The base units of most cordless phones are always radiating, even when no one is using the phone. A cell phone that is on but not in use is also radiating. And, needless to say, cell towers are always radiating.”The Largest Biological Experiment Ever ARTHUR FIRSTENBERG / Sun Monthly 1jan2006

“Why is this a problem, you might ask? Scientists usually divide the electromagnetic spectrum into “ionizing” and “non-ionizing.” Ionizing radiation, which includes x-rays and atomic radiation, causes cancer. Non-ionizing radiation, which includes microwave radiation, is supposed to be safe. This distinction always reminded me of the propaganda in George Orwell’s Animal Farm: “Four legs good, two legs bad.” “Non-ionizing good, ionizing bad” is as little to be trusted.”

“An astronomer once quipped that if Neil Armstrong had taken a cell phone to the Moon in 1969, it would have appeared to be the third most powerful source of microwave radiation in the universe, next only to the Sun and the Milky Way. He was right. Life evolved with negligible levels of microwave radiation. An increasing number of scientists speculate that our own cells, in fact, use the microwave spectrum to communicate with one another, like children whispering in the dark, and that cell phones, like jackhammers, interfere with their signaling. In any case, it is a fact that we are all being bombarded, day in and day out, whether we use a cell phone or not, by an amount of microwave radiation that is some ten million times as strong as the average natural background. And it is also a fact that most of this radiation is due to technology that has been developed since the 1970s.”

“Cell phones are regulated by the Federal Communications Commission, and you can find, in the packaging of most new phones, a number called the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR, which is supposed to indicate the rate at which energy is absorbed by the brain from that particular model. One problem, however, is the arbitrary assumption, upon which the FCC’s regulations are based, that the brain can safely dissipate added heat at a rate of up to 1 degree C per hour. Compounding this is the scandalous procedure used to demonstrate compliance with these limits and give each cell phone its SAR rating. The standard way to measure SAR is on a “phantom” consisting, incredibly, of a homogenous fluid encased in Plexiglas in the shape of a head. Presto, no hot spots! But in reality, people who use cell phones for hours per day are chronically heating places in their brain. The FCC’s safety standard, by the way, was developed by electrical engineers, not doctors.”

The Emergency Medicine Foundation (EMF) is now accepting grant application for the 2007-2008 funding year. EMF supports an aggressive research program providing a vast array of grants to young medical students, residents, emergency medicine faculty and even seasoned researchers. Grants range from $2,400 for medical students to $150,000 for the research fellowship grant. The grant deadlines are December 2006 and January 2007. 2007-2008 Grant Funding Year Program Overview

Grant applications are available on the EMF web site at www.emfoundation.org. The grant applications and the overview are under the EM Research tab at the top of the page.

It is time for the funding agencies to realizethat we need to be asking new and different questions

about electropollution, EMF’s, and radiation.

There has been considerable research already done showing

relationships between many dis-ease processes and

electromagnetic frequencies. However, there has been a

limitation in the thinking so far, which raises new questions.

What if the cause and effect are not a direct link?

If the cell membrane is being affected by EMF’s, what effect

does that have on the body?

Would it always be the same effect on different kinds

of people?

If the signalizing enzymes are being affected by EMF’s,

would that always show up as the same kind of disease?

Why are some people more susceptible to symptoms from

EMF’s than others? Is there a genetic difference? A

cumulative difference? A geographic differernce?

A psychological difference? A consciousness difference?

A usuage difference?

How can one possibly set up a truly valid scientific study

when there are so many variables?

How long will it be before more people show signs

of cellular damage? How can it be measured?

What tests are there?

Since kids are on the phone much more than adults,

in some cases, are they likely to show symptoms sooner

because of the cumulative effect, or later because of

stronger immune systems?

These are questions that require the input of many

different kinds of professional to set up a good study.

It’s not so simple as saying A cause B.

How many people have to suffer before this issue is resolved?

It’s time to think outside the box!

Some gaming consoles and handhelds make use of Wi-Fi technology to enhance the gaming experience:

  • The Wii features built-in Wi-Fi.
  • The Nintendo DS handheld is Wi-Fi compatible, although it does not support WPA encryption, only the weaker WEP.
  • The Sony PSP includes WLAN to connect to Wi-Fi hotspots or make wireless connections.
  • The Xbox 360 features 1 Wi-Fi accessory: A wireless network adapter.
  • The PlayStation 3 premium model ($599) features built-in Wi-Fi.

These devices would be safer for children if they had protective chips put on them to mitigate the effects of radiation.

“Specific absorption rate (SAR) is a measure of the rate at which radio frequency (RF) energy is absorbed by the body when exposed to radio-frequency electromagnetic field. The most common use is in relation to cellular telephones. In the United States, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has adopted limits for safe exposure to RF energy produced by mobile devices and requires that phones sold in the U.S. have a SAR level at or below 1.6 watts per kilogram (W/kg) taken over a volume of 1 gram of tissue. In the EU the corresponding limit is 2 W/kg taken over a volume of 10 grams.”

Parents, Please Don't Let Your Children Use an Unprotected Cell Phone!

These photos graphically show that due to a child’s thinner skull, cell phone radiation penetrates much further! For more information about the dangers of cell phone radiation, please view these videos:
