"In art processes, noise can be caused by vibration, forging,

woodworking and other machinery, pneumatic tools, exhaust fans,

etc. In particular, old or improperly maintained equipment tends

to create more noise. In general, if someone has to raise their

voice to be heard by another person one to two feet away, then

the noise level is too high, especially if it is a steady noise....
Some studies have shown that woodworking teachers have a higher rate
of hearing loss than other teachers."

"Sound intensity is measured in decibels (dB), on a

logarithmic scale. In this scale, 90 dB is ten times more

intense than 80 dB, and 110 dB is ten times more intense than 100

dB. The sound intensity doubles for every increase of 3 dB,

showing that small increases in decibel levels can involve large

increases in sound intensity. Table 7-1 shows the decibel levels

of common sounds.

"Pneumatic and vibrating equipment such as chain saws can

also create problems due to vibration. Raynaud's phenomenon,

which is also called "white fingers" or "dead fingers", affects

the circulation of the fingers, causing them to turn white from

lack of blood and to lose sensation. Vibration can cause this,

particularly with simultaneous exposure to cold, for example,

from the air blast of pneumatic tools. This condition is

initially temporary, but can spread to the whole hand and cause

permanent damage."

“OVERHEAD HIGH-VOLTAGE TRANSMISSION LINES”

“No dwelling or related property improvement may be located within the engineering (designed) fall distance of any pole, tower or support structure of a high-voltage transmission line, radio/TV transmission tower, microwave relay dish or tower or satellite dish (radio, TV cable, etc.).  For field analysis, the appraiser may use tower height as the fall distance.

For the purpose of this Handbook, a High-Voltage Electric Transmission Line is a power line that carries high voltage between a generating plant and a substation.  These lines are usually 60 Kilovolts (kV) and greater, and are considered hazardous.  Lines with capacity of 12-60 kV and above are considered high voltage for the purpose of this Handbook.  High voltage lines do not include local distribution and service lines.

Low voltage power lines are distribution lines that commonly supply power to housing developments and similar facilities.  These lines are usually 12 kV or less and are considered to be a minimum hazard.  These lines may not pass directly over any structure, including pools, on the property being insured by HUD.”

Crackling and Buzzing

“Position: Power lines affect property values
This party claims that since there is evidence that there is a health risk, a loss in value to property owners should be recognized. The key driver of this movement has been the environmental groups.”

“University of Missouri-Kansas School of Law A review of a case where “…that a tax assessor’s opinion that the proposed power line would not change the assessed value of the property for tax purposes was incompetent and prejudicial…”An exerpt of the correspondence: “Late last year, New York’s highest court, the Court of Appeals, ruled that the owner of property adjacent to a utility’s high-power electrical transmission lines could seek damages for a decrease in the market value of the property caused by the fear that the power lines might cause cancer, even if such a fear was not medically or scientifically reasonable. That decision has already begun to change the outlook on electromagnetic field (EMF) litigation for utilities.”

Federal Law Prohibits Rejection of Cell Towers Because of Health Risks September 13, 2006

“Opposition is …strong in residential areas. Washington attorney….represents several cell phone companies, estimated that more than 500 cases have been heard nationwide involving efforts to stop cell phone towers and antennas. In most cases, the cell phone companies have won.”

“That’s in part because federal law eliminates one of the key arguments against cell sites — the health factor. No studies have shown conclusive evidence that radio-frequency emissions are harmful at levels allowed by the Federal Communications Commission. As a result, the law prohibits rejection of a tower based on health risk.

Yet fear of the uncertainty remains. A year ago, the International Association of Fire Fighters opposed the use of fire houses for cell sites “until a study with the highest scientific merit” proves they are safe.

“The American Cancer Society’s website says that because the technology is still relatively new, “we do not yet have full information on health effects.” However, the organization noted there was no known evidence of a link between low-level emissions and cancer.”

“Still, the perception of a health risk, combined with what some consider an eyesore, can lower property values for those living near a cell site, O’Brien said.”

Camouflaged Cell Phone Towers September 13, 2006

“Former eyesores now blend into the landscape, but some say the structures are still nuisances. The next time you go on a hike, take a closer look at the surrounding trees. You might be surprised to discover that “tree” is actually a cellphone tower….Cellular phone towers can take any shape: tree, church steeple, chimney, flagpole, windmill, cactus, and even boulder…….”One of the major ways that a town can deny an antenna permit application is because of aesthetic appeal or property values,” said Libby Kelley, executive director of the Council on Wireless Technology Impacts….

…”In many cases today, cities will not allow carriers to install sites without some sort of concealment and then when they conceal it, it really expedites the zoning process,….Normally, getting a cell tower approved can take a year or more, but a disguised tower could shorten the process — possibly to just six months….once approved, it takes about 8 to 10 weeks to construct a tree pole.”

“Hidden towers have their drawbacks, however. Camouflaged towers can cost between $40,000 and $100,000 to produce, roughly 10 times more than normal towers…. the return costs to wireless carriers offset the expense.”

EMF’s, Cell Phone Towers, and Aesthetics September 13, 2006

“To keep up, cell “sites” — towers and antennas mostly — have increased tenfold, from fewer than 18,000 in 1994 to more than 175,000 now. Without additional towers, calls are lost and reception suffers.”

“Our companies are always running into this conundrum, which is, ‘We want cell phone service, but don’t put that tower here,'” Farren said. “When you’re dealing with communications through the air, you have to have antennas and towers.”

“To meet demand, companies are increasingly turning to nontraditional sites — fire houses, churches, schools, even cemeteries and national parks. A cell tower now sits near Yellowstone’s Old Faithful, despite strong opposition.”…..

….”Cell sites can be a financial boon to those who provide space for them. Cell companies won’t discuss rent, but Donohue said companies typically pay $800 to $2,000 per month, depending on location, the size of the tower or antenna, and other factors. That can be a significant amount for a struggling school district or a church with stagnant or declining membership.”….

….”T-Mobile sued. U.S. Magistrate Judge Frederick Buckles ruled in favor of the company in July. Debbie Barrett, a spokeswoman for suburban Seattle-based T-Mobile, said the company is doing everything it can to make the site “blend in.” But she said the antenna is needed.”

It is time for the funding agencies to realizethat we need to be asking new and different questions

about electropollution, EMF’s, and radiation.

There has been considerable research already done showing

relationships between many dis-ease processes and

electromagnetic frequencies. However, there has been a

limitation in the thinking so far, which raises new questions.

What if the cause and effect are not a direct link?

If the cell membrane is being affected by EMF’s, what effect

does that have on the body?

Would it always be the same effect on different kinds

of people?

If the signalizing enzymes are being affected by EMF’s,

would that always show up as the same kind of disease?

Why are some people more susceptible to symptoms from

EMF’s than others? Is there a genetic difference? A

cumulative difference? A geographic differernce?

A psychological difference? A consciousness difference?

A usuage difference?

How can one possibly set up a truly valid scientific study

when there are so many variables?

How long will it be before more people show signs

of cellular damage? How can it be measured?

What tests are there?

Since kids are on the phone much more than adults,

in some cases, are they likely to show symptoms sooner

because of the cumulative effect, or later because of

stronger immune systems?

These are questions that require the input of many

different kinds of professional to set up a good study.

It’s not so simple as saying A cause B.

How many people have to suffer before this issue is resolved?

It’s time to think outside the box!
